The words you are looking for in the puzzle represent careers in health care or departments within a hospital where you could work. Career exploration can begin as soon as you start high school. Here’s more about some of the many health-care career opportunities available to you: Physical Therapist -- Provides treatment related to the mobility and dexterity of patients. Patient Accounts Representative -- Verifies each patient’s medical insurance coverage, coordinates payments to the hospital, and works with medical insurance companies and patients to resolve health-care bills. Registered Nurse -- Administers physician orders in treating patients, dispenses medication, starts IVs, and works with patients and their families toward their well-being. Coder -- Reads patients’ medical charts, assigns reimbursement codes for medical insurance payments, and reviews medical charts for proper, legal medical notations. Lab Technologist -- Using many lab instruments, performs tests on cultures and specimens to aid in the patients’ diagnosis and treatment. Registration Clerk -- Gathers personal information from each patient before the patient receives hospital services. Dosimetrist -- Works with computers to determine the exact location and dosage of each radiation treatment for patients who have diseases such as cancer. Radiology Technologist -- Takes pictures (called X-rays) of the inside of the body to find broken bones and tumors. Pharmacy Technician -- Uses the physician’s order to prepare medication for patients (Each medication order is checked by the pharmacist before it is delivered to the patient’s floor.), and checks for expiration of medications and disposes of them properly. Phlebotomist -- Draws blood from patients, and delivers specimens to the laboratory. Hospital Pharmacist -- Interprets medication orders and appropriately dispenses medications, IV fluids and chemotherapy drugs; and monitor drug therapies within the industry. Respiratory Care Practitioner -- Delivers treatments to patients who have breathing problems and coordinates with all caregivers for appropriate treatment. Dietitian – Designs and advises patients about menu and nutritional choices, particularly when a patient’s disease (such as diabetes) is affected by their diet. Nurse Assistant -- Helps patients get comfortable; and helps patients with washing, eating and getting around. Partners with each patient’s nurse caregiver to coordinate care. Hospital President -- Carries out policies and procedures decided by the Board of Trustees. Works with employees, patients and families to ensure the improvement of health in all served. Information Systems Representative -- Makes sure the hospital’s computers are working properly and works to make sure all IS systems are up-to-date. | |||||||||||||||||||
